11/19/2023 0 Comments Lost coast tangerine wit![]() Phillips hammer imperial stout: 8.3% imperial stout was originally brewed to satisfy the czarist courts. Phillips grow-hop: 5% newly plucked chinook hops are added rather than dry hops, resulting not only in hoppy bitterness, but also strong melon flavours. usually i absolutely adore it, but wednesday it seemed more like a fermented marinade than a lambic… The black current lambic was on the vinegary side this time. ![]() The arbutus pale ale was malty, but kinda insipid – where, oh were was that west coast attitude i was promised? tasha found that it “falls a little flat”. it just keeps surprising me with how much i am in love with it – which is why i keep putting it in my samplers… I found the copperbock to be very clear and coppery in my glass, not too carbonated, smooth and malty, nice, but nothing to write home about ![]() Storm brewing 12 year black current lambic: 7% not for the timid! this beer is INTENSELY sour, dry and complex. the result is a full flavoured, yet surprisingly crisp beer.Ĭraig street brewpub arbutus pale ale: 5% a british style ale with a craft west coast attitude, light in body with a subtle lingering hop character. Red truck limited steam beer: 5% a hybrid beer style brewing using lager yeast fermented at ale temperatures. Longwood brewpub copperbock: 7.2% in keeping with german tradition, this fest beer is a smooth, creamy seasonal lager well balanced with little hop aroma. My tasting notes, such as they are, from october 27ths beernesday: augustine's Leave a comment on tasting notes tasting notes Posted on DecemJanuCategories abominable ale, backhand of god, beer, beernesday, crannog ales, deschutes, fresh hopped, hopworks brewery, inversion ipa, mogul madness, organic, rogue brewery, st. Oh, and bridget asked that i write down that she gives the backhand of god two hearts. I’d like the chance to try them both again Hopefully they have the mogul madness and the abominable this week as well intense flavours of citrus, and complex notes of nuts, berries and mochaīut do you think i remembered to take notes at all? made with cascade, centennial and simcoe hops and six organic malts, has a complex floral, spicy and citrus hoppiness backed up by just the right amount of malt sweetnessĪlthough i think it might be cheating to pick this one since really, its an ipa…Ħ.3% hoppy, caramel aroma, burgundy in colour with an off-white head. Next up was the hopworks abominable winter aleħ.5% 100% organic. No hop nose, can’t immediately taste the hops, but sure can feel them in my mouthĪs i adjust to this beer after the uber-hoppy inversion, i’m starting to get the hopsĪnd my the end, i was really getting into it Then i moved to the crannog ales 10th anniversary fresh-hopped ipaġ00% organic. The insurrection ipa is the crannog 10th anniversary pale ale hopped up to be an ipa Insurrection ipa and back hand of god stout The others felt that the courses and beers should have been switched – the ipa with the curried pork belly and the red branch with their lamb duo i wanted to lick my damned plate… my pairing worked – think it was the jalapenos… bitter was perfect! damn my mouth tastes good!” dude, i want this as my last meal… or, mebbe i wanna be buried in it. My slightly inebriated notes read: “my meal is the bestest: mango, jalapenos, red peppers, pea stuff, saffron threads, seared tuna. Seriously, the tuna was melt in your mouth perfect, the mango salsa was the perfect juxtaposition of sweet and hot, the pea puree was like tasting spring itself and saffron threads? i felt like royalty! I was too busy being in absolute heaven with my meal to listen to what the meat-eaters had to say about their lamby goodness (me, i got seared tuna with saffron threads and mango salsa) Thanks! Probably could drink another or two.Served with spring pea puree, ipa fluid gel and spruce tips Up to this point I have had only contempt for the pastry stout style, but this is changing my opinion. Finally, this has a good level of CO2 which makes it somewhat interesting, thru the session, without the mouth coating syrupy attitude of the other pastries. This on the other hand is never boozy and is nothing of the sort. So many pastry stouts are gag-me in your face with their over-the-top pastry cloying volatile rudeness. When compared to other pastry stouts, this is very civilized it's never cloying and retains the good manners of a dark beer. ![]() Mind you, the peanut is there but it is not over the top - just quite well balanced. Milder dark beer flavors, like schwartz or dark lager with a solid backup of peanuts. 3.2 Lost Coast Peanut Butter Chocolate Milk Stoutīeautiful pour, just like the one pictured big and black with a rolling thick head.
